Handy Labs Stuff for Gmail

Google provides some experiment stuff that can enhance your Gmail experience but at the same time they come with a disclaimer from google that states

Gmail Labs is a testing ground for experimental features that aren’t quite ready for primetime. They may change, break or disappear at any time.

But they have provided a way which will enable your inbox to load in case lab feature breaks. Use “https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1/?labs=0” to bypass lab features from loading.

There are many lab features but today we will discuss two of the most handy features. We shall discuss other lab features in other post. Stay tuned 😉

Google Calendar widget & Preview Pane

  • Enabling Google Calendar Widget

Select Settings from the drop down which opens on clicking the gear icon on Gmail main page.

In Settings page select Labs tab

Look for google calendar gadget and select enable radio button

Click on save change button at the bottom of the page to enable the widget.

Google calendar widget is shown on the left side of the Gmail’s main page.

Now let’s discuss how to enable preview pane in the Gmail.

In the Lab’s tab look for Preview Pane.

Again click on save changes at the bottom of Labs page to enable preview on Gmail’s main page.

On top, a button will appear which gives us the option to select between horizontal, vertical split & no split.

We recommend vertical split view but the user can select according to their preference.
